Dosojin Firefighter
A firefighter steams standing close by to the burning Shaden at the Nozawa Onsen Dosojin Matsuri, also known as the fire festival. The Dosojin is a popular event that occurs January 15th each year. Here an enormous wooden Shaden is defended by 25-year-old local villages while the 42-year-old locals attempt to set the structure alight with burning branches. Chaos ensues and after much Sake the structure is eventually lit up into a huge bonfire.
